Black Episcopal Church Listed to National Register
St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Charleston County has been listed to the National Register of Historic Properties. This church is closely associated with Charleston’s elite free Black community and was formed in 1865 as the first Protestant Episcopal congregation in the state to be established by Black congregants independently, rather than as a mission church.
