Humane & Friendly Society Cemetery Digital Mapping Project
Preservation Society of Charleston and the Avery Center at the College of Charleston have partnered to digitally map Humane & Friendly Society Cemetery, located in the Charleston Cemetery Historic District.
This African American Burial Society Cemetery was founded in 1856 and is the resting place of many prominent Charlestonians, like Alonzo McClennan, a physician and founder of Charleston Hospital and Training School for Nurses, and Daniel Joseph Jenkins, the founder of the Jenkins Orphanage for Black Children.
