New Charleston Justice Journey Site and Historic Marker
Plymouth Congregational Church was founded in April 1867 by Black members of the Circular Congregational Church on Meeting Street, who were experiencing new freedom after the Civil War. Plymouth is one of the oldest Black Congregational churches in the South.
The church was recently added to the Charleston Justice Journey, a project that recognizes sites significant to African American history and the ongoing journey toward racial equality in Charleston and the Lowcountry.
