New Name for the African American Burial Grounds

The African American Burial ground, Andrew P. Calhoun Family Plot, and Woodland Cemetery Historical Preservation Project came together in 2020 to acknowledge and honor the history of those buried on the grounds and their communities. To cover all three cemeteries, a name was needed, and upon conversations with community members and in research, it was discovered the site was referred to as “Cemetery Hill” for more than a hundred years. This name will now be used when referring to all three site together.
