Restoration Efforts to Preserve Charleston Black Cemetery
Honey Hill Cemetery, established in the 1870s, is a Reconstruction-era African American cemetery at teh city-owned Stephen Washington Park on James Island. There are several visible headstones at the cemetery, but historical records indicate even more. A ground-penetrating survey, funded by the Preservation Society of Charleston will be performed and the City of Charleston Parks Department is prepping the site to clear decades of overgrowth ahead of advanced surveying that will be conducted.
