SC Church Receives Award from National Trust
In honor of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the African American Heritage Fund awarded five, iconic, historically Black churches with $1 million, including The First African Baptist Church in Beaufort. Founded by formerly enslaved people, the church stands as a testament to self-determination, faith. and institution-building during Reconstruction and beyond.
