St. George Rosenwald School included in National Historic Park proposal
A federal bill co-sponsored by Congressman James Clyburn proposes a multi-state network of Rosenwald schools that are still standing, called the Julius Rosenwald and Rosenwald Schools National Historic Park. St. George originally opened in 1926, closed as a school in 1954, and was left vacant since 1970. After 7 years of work, the school reopened as a satellite campus for the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry. All three schools included in the bill hope to inspire others to restore their Rosenwald schools.
