Whitfield Hotel Goes to State Board of Review
On July 25, the Whitfield Hotel in Lancaster County. This hotel catered to Black travelers and met the community’s need for social spaces during Jim Crow segregation. The building was commissioned by Roxanna Whitfield Belk, an entrepreneurial African American woman. The State Board of Review approved to send the nomination to the National Park Service where it will be reviewed for inclusion on the National Register.
