The Center for Civil Rights History and Research was launched in 2015 to chronicle, preserve, and share the contributions of South Carolina to the American Civil Rights Movement.

The Center for Civil Rights History and Research was launched in 2015 to chronicle, preserve, and share the contributions of South Carolina to the American Civil Rights Movement. The Center, currently housed in the Ernest F. Hollings Special Collections Library, includes a unique collection of historically significant documents, including the congressional papers of Rep. James Clyburn. The center also adds to the university’s strong background of civil rights scholarship and engagement by hosting educational programming for students and faculty members and events such as exhibitions, conferences and lectures that are open to the community.
