This StoryMap follows the lives of African American and Native individuals whose movements shaped–and were shaped by–the American Revolution in the South. Their stories reveal a war sustained not only by armies, but by coerced labor, kinship, and knowledge. These are the people who moved supplies without rights, carried intelligence without protection, and made decisions under threat. The Revolution needed them. But it did not guarantee their freedom.
