Jennifer T. Curtis is a retired attorney, having practiced as in-house counsel to Fluor Corporation for over 32 years. Her primary areas of practice were environmental and employment law, but also included real property, government and construction contracts and other issues related to cleaning up Cold War weapons sites owned and managed by the US Department of Energy.
She has always maintained an interest in historic preservation and reuse and renovation of older homes and properties from the early days of her career in New York to the present day in Aiken, SC. She was relocated by her company in 2009 to serve as General Counsel to Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, the managing contractor at the Savannah River Site. She recalls passing a sign for several months regarding a building at the corner of York Street and Richland Avenue, anticipated to become the Center for African American History Art and Culture. When the previous executive assigned to serve on its Board moved, she was asked to take his place. That was 2010. About 10 years later, after serving on the Board in several positions including president, renovation work on the building was finally complete. When a previous SCAAHC member reached out to her in 2020, she accepted the offer to become a commissioner and currently serves as the Commission’s Treasurer.
